“Drum pads were used to perform the rhythm parts to ‘Personal Jesus’ plus a few other songs during the ‘World Violation’ and ‘Devotional’ tours. We would use the Akai ME35T audio/midi units to trigger the appropriate samples when one hit the pad and the ME30P to enable the switching of banks of sounds, via midi, between songs In the case of PJ for example, the sample triggered would have been the original recordings of 3 people jumping on flight cases which created the famous ‘Personal Jesus’ stomps.”
