The live track-sheets signify the contents of the 8-track tape machine which ran during the DM shows of the early ‘80s. Included is a hand-written set list proposed for the tour which must have come immediately after the recording of ‘Construction Time Again’. Alan’s notes list out the proposed running order for the shows, along with details of performed parts designated for each member (complete with nicknames for the sounds). He also drew out sketches in connection with live percussion ideas plus other details.

“I found these notes recently in an old suitcase in my attic. Being the organiser that I am, I would be the one that planned out the most effective way of translating DM’s studio recordings into live performances. Generally, I would assume the task of deciding which parts would run from tape machines, and which would be performed live, and by whom. These notes are fascinating to look back on – they clearly show the thinking at the time, and the embryonic ideas leading up to the tour they relate to.”

A small collection of live track-sheets, a DM set list with extra details, draft drawings of percussion ideas and more. There’s even a letter of complaint, written by Alan on behalf of the group, to ‘Smash Hits’ magazine!
